Bishop Gorman's Demetris Morant Commits To UNLV

Aug 30, 2011 11:14 AM

Demetris Morant, a 6-foot-8 power forward from Bishop Gorman, has verbally committed to UNLV.

"It's a great fit for me," Morant said Monday night. "I like the coaching staff, and their running style of play fits what I do. That's my strength, that and my athleticism and my defense. I'm still working on my offensive game, as well."

Morant said he chose the Rebels over San Diego State. He also was recruited by Arizona State, Memphis, Texas A&M and Nevada.

"Demetris had a lot of offers. He had quite a few options," Gorman coach Grant Rice said. "He's a real quiet kid, but he's starting to make some noise on the court. He's going to show a lot of people what he can do this year.

"He plays a lot bigger than 6-8 because he has a long wingspan and he jumps out of the gym. He will have a leadership role and be one of our top players."

Morant is teammates with Shabazz Muhammad, Rosco Allen and Ben Carter. He is the first of the group to commit to a college.

Reinhardt Commits To UNLV

Aug 12, 2011 10:54 AM

Katin Reinhardt canceled a trip to Texas on Wednesday and decided to make a verbal commitment to UNLV.

Reinhardt, a 6-foot-5-inch guard from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei High School, is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 43 player in the class of 2012.

"I called Coach Rice and said, 'Let's get this done.' I couldn't pass this up," Reinhardt said. "The relationship I have with Coach Rice is great. I can't wait to join that whole team and that coaching staff and try to win a championship. Hopefully, UNLV basketball will be back at the top."

Shabazz Muhammad's College Decision Likely To Come After Five Official Visits

Aug 5, 2011 1:21 PM

Shabazz Muhammad appears to be in no rush to finalize his college decision. Muhammad is one of the top-3 players of the incoming class of 2012.

"I'll definitely take five visits, but I don't know about signing in the early period," Muhammad said. "If I'm unsure between two schools, I'd probably wait it out and see what school really wants me and which one to go to. If I really knew what college I was going to, I could make the decision right now."

UCLA, Duke and UNLV appear to be the current frontrunners.

Kentucky, Kansas, Texas A&M and Memphis are believed to be in the second tier.

Katin Reinhardt To Make Unofficial Visit To UNLV

Aug 2, 2011 12:55 PM

Katin Reinhardt, a 6-foot-4 combo guard from Mater Dei (Calif.) High will take an unofficial visit to the UNLV campus.

UNLV is one of several schools still in the mix for Reinhardt, who Rivals.com ranks as the No. 43 overall prospect in the 2012 class.

Texas, St. John's, West Virginia, Syracuse and Washington State are also on Reinhardt's list.

No major California school is still pursuing him. Following his de-commitment from USC in May, he said the Trojans broke off ties. UCLA was recruiting him before he committed to USC, but hasn't jumped back in since he put himself back on the market.

UNLV is recruiting Reinhardt as a point guard.

"He compared me to Jimmer Fredette a lot," Reinhardt said at the Fab 48 of his conversations with Dave Rice. "How he let him play is how he'll let me play. That freedom, being able to do that stuff, that's what I look at. Look where Jimmer got. He went to the NBA as a lottery pick. So if you could get that kind of coach to be behind you 100 percent, that's everything you could ask for."
